Factors influencing sensor positioning

"To detect gas in those locations so that any gas build-up is detected prior to the formation of an explosive, toxic or asphyxiating concentration". EN50073

            Personnel to be involved:

            -process engineer
            -health and safety officer
            -manufacturer or his representative
            -instrument engineer

Factors that influence the locating of sensors:

            -indoor or outdoor location
-potential release location/s of the gas/es
            -Vapour density of the gas
            -Air flows
            -release rate of the gas
-is the gas source likely to be under pressure?, possible jet formation and or will the gas density be changed
-gas temperature – its impact on volatile liquids
            -ventilation: natural or mechanical
-plant layout/structural arrangements and their effect on gas accumulation
-thermal effects caused by temperature hotspots
-wind speed and direction effecting outdoor location
-impact of adverse weather conditions on sensors in outdoor locations
-consideration to service engineers for access to sensors during routine calibration
